Quote of the day:

He that breaks a thing to find out what it is has left the path of wisdom.
		-- J.R.R. Tolkien

(Tolkien was obviously not a computer hacker)
               -- Evil Twin Skippy

Ok, I also have a new article from the BOS, Time and Place for Rituals.

And for you Mac fans out there, I've put together a build of QuicktimeTcl for Snow Leopard

The Rant of the day:

Well in my travels yesterday, I was introduced to an interesting service. It's called "scred", and it essentially tracks who owes what to whom. http://www.scred.com/. Ok, sure, it does sound pretty dotcommy, at first. But anyone who has tried to get a group of friends together to rent a beach house, or worked at a Folk Festival knows how sticky it can be some time to deal with finances.

Basically, people can join "pools." These pools divide up expenses, and count up contributions, and you can see who has a net liability. They also have a business feature that allows "screds" to be interchanged actual money via Pay Pal.

Sure, simple. But I can't say I've seen it done competently before. I'm thinking this would be the perfect way for my Family around the holidays. We are scattered all over the country. So rather than get 6 little gifts, we all swap notes, and everyone gets one big gift from the rest of us. And also, with two sisters in college, every so often, one needs some help with a car repair, etc. etc. etc. I also have the case of my Ex wife and I keeping track of our shared expenses we incur with or Daughter. And oh, could we have used it last year to keep track of who was spending what on renovating the house!

All in all, sure, for one pool, it's a little overkill. But start layering on a few, and it's easy to lose track of things.

Have a great day!
