Back in 2002 I Developed a portable database that was used by curators to travel the country and capture data for the Benjamin Franklin Tercentenary Project (aka Benís 300th birthday). The system stored an encyclopedic description for artifacts and manuscripts, as well as keywords for indexing. Included in the descriptions were document quality photographs and detailed provenance. The system was written in Tcl and MySql.
The data that was captured by that prototype was later ported to the project's current website. Indeed, many of the dynamic page editing features on my current website were honed for the Tercentenary database.
