And that's all well and good, except how does one decide who will be in charge? There are a large number of awful systems. The least awful is that of the random lottery.

For any group of finite bounds, put everyone's (EVERYONE'S) name into a hat, a random number generator, a bingo machine, something completely unbiased and guaranteed to produce a uniform random distribution. The leader is the person whose name is drawn from the hat.

It's like Jury Duty. There are few perks, it's mostly a pain in the neck, but the strain is distributed across the entire congregation.

If one is in a 2 party discussion, and you come across a controversy that requires one person's idea to win over another, and the Canon has no clear victor, flip a coin.
