Quote of the Day
People are like stained-glass windows. They sparkle and shine when the sun is out, but when the darkness sets in, their true beauty is revealed only if there light is from within

Visiting the King
Well I road tripped with my sisters to get from PA/VA down to my brother's place in Dallas. And along the way we had a few merry adventures. And I think it's best summed up in the style of the 12 days of Christmas:

  • Twelve "are we there yets"
  • Eleven bathroom stops
  • Ten years off my life
  • Nine Bon Jovi albums
  • Eight cups of coffee
  • Seven bags of junk food
  • Six interstate highways
  • A *FIVE* inch dent
  • four hours of sleep
  • three comped meals
  • two new tires
  • and A lost apartment key.

Along the way we stopped at Graceland. I have to say, as someone who worked in the museum industry, bravo. The tour, while self guided, was extremely well organized. The audio tour had plenty of side tracks programmed into it if you wanted to learn more about a certain bit. The artifacts were displayed as part of the experience, not the total experience. And every effort was made to paint "the king" as a person, with hopes, and dreams and not unlike everyone of us out there.

...or maybe I felt a particular kinship with eccentricity, and I was taking notes for what the tour through my hollowed out volcano will be after I've shuffled off my mortal coil...

In any case, it's definitely worth the stop if you happen to be driving through Memphis. You don't have to be an Elvis fan to walk away with something from the experience. Granted, the well stocked gift shop doesn't hurt in that respect either.

Well time to get back to family, and Thanksgiving preparations, and stretch pants. Have a great holiday all of you!
